Overview:
One
of the biggest stumbling blocks to successfully running a
profitable Web site is the technical side of writing a Web
page or putting together electronic porducts and other geeky
stuff.
I
have used RentACoder myself and found it an excellent resource.
It works very simply. You set up an account and post a job.
You'll get a number of bids and you accept one.
In
order to accept a bid you'll have to put the agreed-upon payment
up in an excrow account held by RentACoder. You can use a
credit card or PayPal. The Coder only gets paid upon completion
of the work. (top)
Positive:
RentACoder boasts a
92.49% repeat customer rate. That's pretty impressive!
For
the job I needed I had a Visual Basic application I had written
(the only programming language I know anything about) and
I needed it translated into a CGI script so I could run it
on a Web site where I sell an info-product. It was an application
I needed as an adjunct support for the info-product.
I
needed it fast (less than ten days). I posted it on RentACoder
and the next day got a bunch of bids from $10 up to $130.
I chose a $40 one from a guy who could do it in one day. He
also had a very high satisfaction rating.
This
$40 investment will be worth hundreds, if not thousands of
dollars in sales to me. I'll be using their services a lot
more in the future.

Negative:
This
isn't really so much a negative as a note of caution. Like
Ebay, RentaACoder is simply a mediation service. You'll have
to watch the ratings of the people you hire through the service.
In the job I mentioned above I didn't choose the $10 bid because
the bidder didn't have a very high satisfaction rating.
Fortunately
the escrow process and a very elaborate system of rating and
arbitration by RentaACoder makes it pretty safe. However,
I cannot guarantee satisfaction since I don't know who you
will choose for your jobs. (top)
Affiliate
Program
RentACoder does have an affiliate
program. It is possible to send traffic to them and get part
of the take for bids received through your link. (top)
Site
Popups
I
found no popups on the site. (top)
Newsletter
and Articles (top)
I
did not see a newsletter. However, there is a page of very
nice articles. Once you log in look for a link on the left
called Buyer Articles. In it are a number of good business-related
articles including advice on using RentACoder for copywriting
and other great stuff. (top)
Money-Back
Guarantee
There is an optional sellers guarantee
system whereby you can request the Coder post a guarantee
deposit into an account. You will receive the guarantee money
if dissatisfied with the work. (top)
Support
I have not tried writing
to the Rentacoder support staff to test their response. However,
they are a large company and have their fax number, phone
number, and full street address as well as online contact
information on their About page. They also have the arbitration
system. I have no doubt you will receive full support from
them. (top)
