First,
understand what the PDF Creator is not. It is not a piece
of software that has everything you need to create PDF documents.
You still need the full Acrobat package, which is very expensive.
Yes, Acrobat documents are good, but it is the price that
keeps most people away. You should also have a decent Word
Processor, and preferably one that can handle HTML.
What
this package is, is a sort of Reader's Digest training manual
just for e-publishers. In other words, it is a training program
that leaves out the many features of Acrobat that the typical
ebook publisher isn't likely to need.
While
it is true that Acrobat PDF files have some incredible features
and a good protection scheme, you really should compare with
other ebook compilers before deciding. Price, is one factor,
and some security features Acrobat does not have are another.
While
Acrobat has internal security features like disabling printing
or copying, for example, It is still possible for people to
share entire PDF documents along with the passwords, and there's
nothing you can do about it. If you're really interested in
curbing theft, some other ebook compilers have a feature where
the ebook must check back with your server and validate the
copy. Only one person can use it, because the code won't validate
for a second copy. This has the added benefit that if someone
decides they want a refund, you can "turn off" their
copy of the book. Acrobat does NOT have this capability.
I'm
not saying not to use Acrobat. There are pros and cons for
each method. But you should do your research first and know
what it doesn't have - and that's why I'm pointing you in
the right direct now.
So
if you have Acrobat and a good word processor and you want
the quick guide, go for it, but I'm spending my money elsewhere.
The
gold package includes three additional books (1) 147 e-publishing
tips, (2) E-book submitter, (3) How to spread the word of
mouse. None of them are show-stoppers.
