Overall
view
Webposition Gold is magic. If I were to make a bare-bones
recommendation list of products you must have (good idea,
I might just do that) this would be on the list.
You
will be able to research ideal keywords for your site, keep
track of the position of hundreds or even thousands of keywords
on the search engines, generate detailed reports, analyze
your web pages and edit them to position you better for those
keywords. Of course it includes auto submission to over 200
search engines.
As
the Internet Marketing Center ad points out, if you have 6
products each with 15 keywords (or more!) and want to check
each keyword with 200 search engines, that would be 18,000
queries to run. Webposition Gold can do that for you in a
few minutes. In fact it can do it for you several times a
day if you like. I let mine run after hours and open the completed
report each day when I get to my desk.
You'll
analyze your competitor's positions and strategies. You'll
create HTML doorway pages to make your keywords really work
for you.
Wordtracker,
which is highly touted by every SEO I know, has a built-in
free version in the software.
In
a few minutes I'll describe more detail about each module.
You'll
need a Google API code which is quick and simple to obtain
from Google.
Much
of what Webposition Gold does reminds me of the research tool
built into Ken Evoy's Site Build It! package. The SBI system
is wonderful in that it is already build into your hosting
package, but Webposition Gold does a lot more and is more
powerful and flexible. It certainly has many many more options,
reports, and bells and whistles.
IMC
and Webposition Gold relationship
Webposition Gold is not an Internet Marketing Center product.
Derek Gehl recommends it and sells it as an affiliate reseller
with the explanation that there is no point trying to improve
on a product that is already great. The IMC webpage that advertises
it is not immediately apparent from the home page.
Delivery
Webposition Gold is sold as a download product. The Internet
Marketing Center sent me an email with a link to the download
on the manufacturer's site and a registration code. Then there
was a web link to submit the reg code and personal data, and
the unlock code was sent promptly by return email.
Delivery
problem and lesson
A problem quickly cropped up when I found that the download
version they pointed me to was version 4, but the unlock code
that was sent was version 3.5. The actual ad on the IMC website
is for version 3.0. I'm told that the mismatch is now fixed,
so that shouldn't happen to you. However, the ad copy still
describes version 3.0.
I
wrote to the original seller, Webtrends, to get help on the
version mixup. I got an autoresponder with a promise of help
within 24 hours, and indeed got a quick response with the
correct code for version 4.
By
the way, Webtrends really plugs their email support system
and encourages you to contact them for even the smallest question.
They really deliver in support!
The
lesson: Version mixups like this often occur when you try
to sell affiliate products directly. If you sell affiliate
products only do so through a link and let the original company
handle the sale. Do not set up to sell them directly. If your
copy or some part of the deliver is out os cync with product
updates it can get a little frustrating for the customer.
Besides, the customer gets caught in the middle trying to
figure out who to go to for support.
Free
Bonus delivery problem
A similar problem occured with the "free bonusSecrets to Achieving a Top 10 Ranking" which was
quoted as worth $79. The download URL for it pointed to a
page at Webtrends, but I couldn't find the download anywhere
on the page. I wrote Webtrends for help. I also contacted
the Internet Marketing Center and they have addressed the
difficulty finding it with Webtrends.
Installation
At first Webposition Gold 4 didn't allow me to install it
becasue I didn't have the Microsoft .net platform installed.
That requirement was not published on the IMC sales site and
I couldn't find it anywhere on the Webtrends site either.
Modules
Once the purchase and download problems were resolved,
this product turned out to be excellent - and very comprehensive.
Here
are the various modules:
Reporter
is the primary module you'll use daily to see where you stand,
where you've lost ground and where you've gained ground. It
will give your position for every keyword for every search
engine. It has tabs so that you can see the results sorted
by engine or by keyword. It will show you how your entry looks
on the search engine. It will analyze the elements of your
page so that you can improve its position. It will tell you
about the other websites that rank higher than yours so you
can learn from them. I keep being tempted to pour over all
the information. It's addictive.
This
chart from the Reporter is a record of Pickaguru.com's Search
Engine Visibility score from 10/25/05 - 12/11/05 (it's a lovely
thing to see!):
Webtracker
Keywords is a free version of the Webtracker Keyword
Generator built into Webposition Gold. It is an incredible
keyword finding tool. When I started out I could only think
of about six good keywords to build into my webpage. Webtracker
Keyword Generator found me hundreds to choose from. I found
which were searched for frequently and which were not. I owe
a great deal of my targeted traffic to this application.
Page
Critic is the critique portion of Reporter on steroids.
You can discover exactly what you're doing wrong to keep you
low in the search engines. Too many uses of your keywords,
too few uses, not enough high up on the site. None using heading
typeface. Many other stats and recommendations. Then you can
look at the top listings and find out what they're doing to
be in that position. You can compare yours with theirs and
experiment. It's powerful and wonderful.
Page
Builder is exactly what it sounds like. You put in
your target keywords and answer questions about your title,
body and other elements, and out pops an HTML page already
optimized for good search engine friendliness. It's very clever.
Upload
Manager is the module that submits your site to over
200 search engines. It's very smart. For example, you may
try to submit one and the result will tell you that you must
submit to that engine by hand - and it will tell you how.
It knows the exact requirements for each engine and customized
your experience to be sure you get the job done right.
There
is a module icon called Webtrends Analysis,
but if you click that one you find that it's a premium service
starting at $35/mo.
There
is a Scheduler so you can have Webposition
Gold do various functions after-hours.
There
are a number of interesting options, such as a slow for batch
searches. It seems Google and some others don't like automated
batch searches so it runs at a speed that keeps you from getting
blocked. As I said, this is intelligent software.
Many
experts tell you not to spend too much time trying to optimize
your search engine position. I agree. That's why I recommend
this software. You can learn a LOT in very little time. I
like it!
