Get Your
Blog Noticed and Get Back-Links at the Same Time
Blogging is one of the
many ways to build traffic back to your Website. A blog can
do several things for you:
- Provide a link in and of itself to your site for search
engines (if it is not hosted on your site.)
- Provide direct traffic back to your site or to other pages
on your site, from your blog visitors.
- Provide another place to put affiliate or product links
to enhance sales
- Writing articles in your blog creative material for your
Website and other marketing efforts
- Getting listed in the blog directories provides many
new back-links for search engines to follow.
It is
this last point I want to address in this article. In order
for your blog to help boost your site traffic, you'll need
to promote your blog and get back-links to it and thus to
your site.
One important
point I want to make about this is that it is best to have
your blog right on your site - not on a separate blog server.
That way, all the links you generate in the blog directories
are not just back-links to your blog, but back-links to your
domain, which will help you with your search engine popularity.
Did you catch how critical
this is? If your blog is part of your Website, you will list
your blog in dozens of blog directories and each link in them
is a reference (a back-link) to your Website, which is important
to search engines when they decide how relevant your Website
is.
But if your blog is only
hosted on a blog site, then all those back-links only link
back to the popularity of that domain. The only value to your
own site is indirect, such as a place to make affiliate sales
or as a single link back to your site.
Having said that, I will
now assume you have a blog and you have it running on the
site you wish to promote. Your next step is to list that blog
in the many blog directories.
I have not tested every
entry in the following list, but it is a list of blog directories
where you may wish to submit your blog, in order to get several
new back-links to your site. I also do not pretend this list
is complete. If you have a favorite directory not on this
list please let me know so I can add it.
Here the list of blog
directories you can submit your blog to, to generate back-links
to your site. (Note: This list was generated from a search
at dmoz.org and is not my own composition. In other words,
when you find errors or entries that don't make sense don't
blame me, I warned you.)
