Article Submission for SEO

Using Articles to promote your Web site.

One of the common practices for promoting a Web site is to submit articles to other Web sites and ezines. This can have a major impact in several ways:

• Search Engines see links to your site in these articles as back-links, adding more "relevance" to your Web site and landing better search result positions.
• Your name becomes more prevalent on the Web, attracting more attention.
• You take on an air of authority on the subject of your articles.
• Visitors to your articles may directly click the links, directly increasing your traffic.
• Other site or ezine owners may reprint your article, giving a snow-ball effect to all of the above benefits.

So let's talk a bit about some of the strategy. I'll break it up into several distinct points.

1. You must be a good communicator.

One of my pet topics in Internet Marketing is that too many people want to make their millions selling something on the Web but can't construct a simple sentence. Folks, this is why your teachers tried to drill into your heads that you must learn writing skills. If you can't write - get out of marketing!

Proofread your articles and if possible have someone else proof them too.

2. Be sure your article is on topic with the site you're promoting.

It makes no sense to have a site on beauty aids and try to write articles on baking a blackberry pie to promote it. Yet many people do this very kind of thing. You are not only getting nowhere, but you are losing focus on your business and wasting valuable time. TIme is already in short supply for Internet Marketers.

3. Don't expect to write a couple of articles and get massive traffic. Write a LOT!

Just as huge sites with lots of pages help you in search engines, so do a lot of articles in a lot of different places. Yes it takes time. When I write an article I usually don't get much else done that day - but it is worth it. One brick at a time is how you build your site and one brick at a time is how your build your traffic.

Did anyone tell you Internet Marketing would only take you a couple of hours a day? They did? Newsflash! They lied.

4. An article Submitter software package can be useful if you will be submitting a lot.

I'm currently using the Article Submitter from Market-Soft to speed up my work. It's main two features are that it (1) gives you a good list of Article Submission sites and takes you directly to the submission pages and (2) Auto fills all your submission info for you making submission very quick.

This software does have a couple of frustrations, which I'll cover in the next point. First it doesn't keep any log or checklist to help you remember what articles you submitted where (or when) and second it lists the sites in alphabetical order, rather than by traffic rating. I'll cover both of these in the next two points.

You can submit by hand if you want to save some money - but the cost will be your time.

5. Keep a log of what articles you submitted where and when.

As I said in point four above, the Article Submitter does not do this for you. You'll have to keep a record of it yourself. Otherwise you'll get lost really fast.

6. Favor the article submission sites with the best traffic.

Google and other Search Engines give a great deal more importance on back-links from popular sites than from low-traffic sites. To get the best SEO bank for your buck, favor submitting your articles to the most popular article repositories first.

I use the Alexa Rating (Rating from Alexa.com) to find the most "important" sites in a given list of sites. It took me a few hours to look up all the following article submission sites from the and re-order them by traffic, but I did it, and now I'm going to share the results with you (you luck people).

The number is the Alexa rating at the time I wrote this article. The lower the number the more traffic the site gets (in general). This number changes from day to day, but this should give a rough guide.

Please remember that linking to URLs is like hitting a moving target. It's hard to keep up with changes. These links should, for the most part take you directly to the submissions pages.
